EIRP Russia Energy Series – Russia’s Renewable Energy
EIRP Russia Energy Series – Russia’s Renewable Energy
In the second installment of EIRP’s working paper series on Russia’s global energy role, Yury Melnikov assesses Russia’s renewable energy potential in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Melnikov, a member of the Geneva-based United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s Task Force on Hydrogen, reviews prospects for solar, wind, hydropower, and hydrogen in Russia and in Russia’s exports. He sketches a grim picture for industries that lack both adequate government support and a sufficient domestic market to become globally competitive. The loss of key hydrogen export markets in Europe and Asia will likely also slow the sector’s growth.
